While most people are still sipping their morning chai, she is already at her station, ready to weave magic into every cup. A hard worker, a mama of two, a Team Leader, and a machine operator, Rehema Mnzava is the very essence of a woman who gives so others can gain.
This year, as we celebrate International Women’s Day with the theme Give to Gain, we highlight the deeply resonating story of Rehema. Women are at the heart of everything we do at Kazi Yetu. For us, it is important to tell their stories because many go unnoticed. Most people only see the final product, our tea, but not the hard work behind it. Recognizing this is one of our core values at Kazi Yetu.
Rehema has been working at Kazi Yetu for seven years. Her role involves blending tea, herbs, and spices, operating the tea packing machine, and supervising many of the key processes on the factory floor as a Team Leader. Throughout her time at the factory, she has become the backbone of her team, not only providing support but also inspiring everyone around her with her dedication and contributions.
Just one year ago, Rehema gave birth to a baby girl. She carried her pregnancy like a boss, showing up for her peers and her family with all her strength. When she returned from maternity leave, Rehema continued to breastfeed her baby, pumping milk during breaks, and many of us know that is no small feat. She stayed positive, happy, and balanced while continuing her work as a Team Leader.
“I enjoy my time at work,” she shares, “and love working in a place full of strong women.”
In this supportive environment, she feels safe and understood, allowing her to share her problems with others and receive great advice. This sense of community aligns with one of Kazi Yetu's greater goals: to improve women's lives not only financially, but also by providing a safe space where women feel free, empowered, and surrounded by other positive, hardworking women.
Over the years, Rehema has not only developed her skills but also gained confidence and leadership opportunities. Kazi Yetu has evolved into a space where she can take initiative, guide others, and play a central role in daily operations. As a motherly figure, younger team members often look up to her for guidance. She takes pride in mentoring others, just as she was supported when she first joined the team.
Balancing the responsibilities of motherhood with the demands of the factory is no easy task. However, with support at home to help care for her children, it becomes more manageable and allows Rehema to be fully present in her role.
Behind every cup is the real impact of women like Rehema.
